WHERE WE ARE TODAY

In 2001, I started scanning the animals for muscle depth at 9 months of age. Now I had figures to back up my visual appraisal of the animals. With these figures, in combination with the weights at birth, weaning and 9 months and their pedigree records, we are able to obtain KidPlan Estimated Breeding Values. These figures show us what improvement an animal can make to the performance of his or her progeny. It is with these figures, in addition to the physical appearance of the animal that we now select our breeding stock.

We have been using Kidplan EBVs to make our breeding matches for so long now that the results have brought us well ahead of the pack. For many years Tambookie was the only stud using Kidplan but a few years ago we were joined by a dedicated group of Boer Goat breeders who also started recording data and returning it to Kidplan. In 2014 a MLA (Meat and Livestock Australia) trial was held to establish genetic linkages within Australian goat flocks and to determine whether the existing sheep indexes were suitable for goats. Tambookie took part in this trial using TAMBOOKIE GORDON, a buck we had used extensively in our herd and who had good EBVs and good conformation.
TAMBOOKIE GORDON
Gordon's trial progeny have shown the way.The results are now available on the Kidplan website and show that TAMBOOKIE is indeed ahead of the flock.

More Tambookie animals have EBVs far exceeding the average and more Tambookie animals have EBVs far exceeding the best of the other representative studs. Kidplan is a scientifically proven system unique to the world of animal genetics and TAMBOOKIE animals excel in KIDPLAN EBVs.
